"SEATTLE SKYLINE #4"

$16,000.00

Since moving to Seattle in 2014 , contemporary mixed media fiber artist Gabrielle has been absorbed with using textiles and mixed media collage. She completed this SEATTLE SKYLINE in 2018. She was contacted by curator Mary Markell and it was selected to be exhibited in MAKE/DO : A History of Creative Reuse at the Washington State History Museum in Tacoma,Wa. The show was from July13 - Dec 6,2018.

The dynamic collage celebrates the architecture, color, history and texture of this vibrant city. It is no surprise that the artist responds to the Seattle waterfront as she does, the Emerald City is the perfect backdrop for the socially conscious artist’s own utopia of green - recycling, repurposing, and reinventing textiles to make her eco friendly art. The collage is composed nearly entirely of upcycled bedding, clothing, canvas, embroidery thread, table lines and designer fabric samples. This textile collage measures 71” x 70”.

Central to the detailed collage is the iconic Pike Place Market and the Washington State Ferry, anchoring the viewer to the busy waterfront with as much action taking place in Elliot Bay as on land and in sky, where the famous Seattle Space Needle and Mt Rainier soar above. Facades, ferries, and other boats are meticulously drawn, cut, and sewn by the artist, who employs both hand sewing and machine techniques to depict the motifs, challenging herself and her own creative boundaries in each stitch. Gabrielle has managed to create her fiber art despite having Rheumatoid Arthritis in her hands and wrists.

Gabrielle has been making and exhibiting her art nationally for over three decades. Her works have been included in fine art museums, galleries, and universities, as well as specialty retail brand initiatives such as Eileen Fisher RENEW in Columbia City, WA. where the artist won Best Use of Materials for her submission of SEATTLE SKYLINE #1 in 2014.

Gabrielle dedicated SEATTLE SKYLINE to the people and city of Seattle and ideally hopes it will be displayed in a public environment where it can be enjoyed by many from the local community and beyond.
