Passage Sticks

Passage Sticks

$250.00

During the 2020 “Shelter in Place order” in Seattle, I started a project I planned to do for almost one year. I’ve collected a variety of sticks for what I’m now calling my “Passage Sticks” installation. Grateful for the donation of beneficial bamboo, oak, and many others sticks. Inspired by the show “Yarn, Rope and String,” I dug into my exhaustive collection of upcycled textiles— yarn, rope, and string.

While traveling, I’ve seen how many cultures adopt ordinary sticks for talking, walking, medicine, sports, ceremonies, prayer, and herding. The colorful wrappings of yarn, rope, string, and fabric mark the many steps and changes in the owner’s life. A humble stick transformed and upcycled into a work of art.

Some of the sticks are more decorative and fragile, not intended for walking.
